Alex Cole | Speech Pathologist

Alex is a Paediatric Speech Pathologist focusing on diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She has over 25 years’ experience and is an accredited diagnostician with Autism SA. She has worked for many years in the Child Development Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and combines public and private work.

Alex is passionate about working to achieve accurate and timely diagnosis of ASD in children. She is particularly interested in assessing complex children who may have multiple areas of difficulty and in the assessment of girls. Assessments for adults are also offered.

She trained in Adelaide and has worked in a variety of health and education settings in Australia and the UK. Her interest in children with special needs, particularly those with ASD, began to develop as she worked in special education preschools and schools, and then in a specialist class for children with ASD in the UK. Returning to Australia she continued developing her practice to address the needs of this group of children.

Alex strives to maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive knowledge of services across the public and private sector available for children with ASD and their families. She is a member of Speech Pathology Australia and adheres to their Code of Ethics. She is committed to her own training and development, and keeps updated in current research in relation to ASD. Alex has been involved in the training of many other diagnosticians. She is also a trained counsellor.
